Services for NGOs

The CAGI assists international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) established or wishing to set up in the Geneva region.

Intellectual property and data protection

How can the name, abbreviation and logo of an NGO be protected in Switzerland?

The name, abbreviation and logo are generally distinctive signs. Provided they are not subject to an absolute ground for exclusion within the meaning of Art. 2 of the Federal Law on the Protection of Trademarks and Indications of Source (LPM), these signs can be protected as trademarks.

The protection of a trademark in Switzerland depends on a registration decision from the Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI).

For information on trademarks from various sources at the national and international levels, including trademarks, appellations of origin and official emblems, consult the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Global Trademark Database (WIPO).
