HOUSING SEARCH PROCESS

1. HOUSING SEARCH

Web platforms for finding accommodation for a long period of time:

Caution about rental scams: be particularly suspicious with proposals that look too good to be true, and where you are asked beforehand to pay a fee to visit or reserve the apartment. Fake ads are often based on real ones, stealing their location and even pictures.
Do not pay anything before you actually have visited the property, and a lease contract has been established.

2. VISITS

Interested in a specific accommodation offer? The process varies depending on the regie (letting agent).

Some will send a staff member on site to participate in the visit, others will ask you to arrange a visit with the concierge or the current tenant and still others will ask you to pick up the keys at the agency and let you visit the accommodation yourself.

3. APPLICATION

If the accommodation interests you it will be necessary to submit an application which must include the following documents:

  • The Régie registration form
  • Certificat de non-poursuite issued by the Office des poursuites et faillites (french only)
  • Salary certificate, or your last three payslips
  • Copy of your ID

4. YOUR APPLICATION IS ACCEPTED

You will receive a lease contract for signature. We recommend submitting it to us for proofreading. It is important to understand the terms, in particular those relating to the termination of the contract, including the diplomatic clause normally included since 2001 in the lease contracts of the Canton of Geneva.
