Private Household Employees online platform

Members of the staff of diplomatic missions, permanent missions, consular posts and international organizations have the possibility, depending on their status and if they wish, to employ a private servant within the meaning of the Ordinance on servants (ODPr) and under the conditions of the latter.

To this end, the CAGI has set up a job exchange platform to put private household employees looking for an employer in contact with employers looking for a private household. Registration and consultation of offers in our offices, open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

All information relating to the conditions of entry into Switzerland, residence and work of private household employees is available, in several languages, on the website of the Swiss Mission.

2. Consulting

Once the online registration request has been finalized, it is then to the FDFA (Protocol in Bern or Permanent Mission of Switzerland in Geneva) so that the validity of the applicant’s (person seeking employment or employer) legitimation card can be verified. Once the registration is approved by the FDFA, it is published for a duration of maximum 3 months (renewable upon the express request of the application) in the online “employer” or “private household employees” registers.

The CAGI’s aim is not to inform the parties regarding the progress of their request. Its role is only to make the information available. It is up to the persons seeking employment to directly contact the employers who have advertised an offer of employment in the Employment Registration Desk and up to the employers to directly contact the persons seeking employment who have offered their services.

3. Withdrawal of the request

The applicant must immediately inform the CAGI, by email (welcome.cagi@etat.ge.ch) or through the online platform if he/she has found an employment or a private household employee so that the employment application or the offer of employment can be withdrawn from the relevant online register.

4. Dispute

The CAGI does not monitor the working relationship likely to be established between the parties. If a dispute between the parties were to be brought to its attention, it would encourage them to refer the Office of the Amiable Compositeur:

Office of the Amiable Compositeur (BAC)

Independent mediation structure hosted by the CAGI. BAC’s mission is to seek amicable solutions to disputes involving institutions or individuals with diplomatic status and their employees. Access to the BAC is free and confidential. Further information is available on the Swiss Mission website.
