Communication Volunteer


Human Right 2 Water is an international public interest development organisation based in Geneva, Switzerland. This position is for a French mother-tongue speaker and will be working from home.

Its mission is to develop sustainable solutions based on human rights standards to improve water and sanitation governance worldwide, particularly regarding consistent water law and policy frameworks. It works with an alliance of interested parties to improve water-governance frameworks, bringing them in line with country obligations under international human rights law. The organisation has an international secretariat, a supervisory board of directors, and a large pool of members and expert advisors.  

The International Secretariat is responsible for the implementation of HR2W projects and the involvement of members and volunteers in the organisation. It also acts as the organisation’s focal point for external stakeholders.  

Job Purpose

The Communication volunteer's role is to support legal publication and communication activities in French for programmes supporting the Human Rights to Water and Sanitation, reporting to the CEO.


The Communication volunteer is responsible for the following: 

  • Editing and formatting of documents supporting the mission of the organisation, including publications on the human rights to water and sanitation, manuals for training, powerpoint slides
  • Supporting workshops and events through production of training materials, marketing materials, media presence.
  • Supporting HR2W visibility and online presence through the French website and social media sites, and news updates. Tracking online activities. Liaison with the Communication Manager
  • Administration and organisational support to the Legal team in activities such as writing minutes, monthly reports, managing communication contacts.



University degree in French, Marketing or Communications Studies would be ideal or alternatively a concentration in international law, international relations and/or human rights.

Professional Experience

Experience of working in communication, publications, water governance, human rights or environmental policy are all an advantage.


Applicants should be well-organised, with proficiency in the use of digital and social media platforms and possess excellent written communication skills in Spanish, preferably with copy editing experience.


Fluency in spoken and written French is an absolute requirement for this role, and a good basic knowledge of spoken and written English is desired (for team meetings and internal communications). Knowledge of additional languages especially Spanish is considered an advantage.

Other details

This position is 15% for 6 months (6 hours per week), based virtually from home, with a start date as soon as possible. It is a voluntary position.
