Play in english
A tragicomedy in two acts, Waiting for Godot has divided opinions since its debut in Paris in 1953. Despite originally being greeted with puzzlement and disdain, it is now widely regarded as one of the most important plays of the twentieth century and is still regularly performed the world over.
On its surface, Waiting for Godot is a simple story of two men waiting at the side of a country road for someone called Godot who never arrives. They converse and amuse themselves whilst waiting and encounter other characters who come along the road. However this simple play was a groundbreaking innovation in theatre, touching on profound themes of existence and what it means to be human.
