 Sport for Child Protection Advisor

Terre des hommes offers a diverse range of tasks and responsibilities  in a team of technical advisors specializing in child protection and psychosocial development, giving the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of millions of children in situation of strong vulnerability. Tdh aims to develop advanced expertise for the well-being of children and young people through the use of sport, and the Sport for Child Protection Advisor will be leading the activities of the organization in this field.

Targeted start date : 1st of March 2018

Activity rate : 100%

Post based in : Lausanne, Switzerland

Travel rate : 30%

Context:

Terre des hommes is committed to protecting children against abuse of any kind, and works regularly with key international children’s aid agencies to maintain the highest possible standards. We strongly believe that sports give children the opportunity to develop self-esteem, confidence, leadership and teamwork skills while having fun – therefore sport programs play a valuable role in the well-being and protection of children. 

Main activities:

  • Act as the main thematic referent in your field of expertise: the use of sport for protection and psychosocial support of children and youth;
  • Provide  technical support on the use of sport for children and youth protection in both Emergency and Development settings: develop project proposals and technical support and capacity development directly on the field;
  • Develop the conceptual framework for the use of sport in child protection, and build and strengthen partnership strategies in that field;
  • Be the leading point of contact for sport and protection at an institutional level, as well as in exchanges with external partners and stakeholders;
  • Communicate and manage network: represent Tdh in your domain, monitor and document processes and ensure reporting to donors;
  • Travel to different locations upon request, to ensure technical guidance to field teams.

Child Safeguarding Policy:

  • Raising awareness within the Foundation on violence against children.
  • Providing guidance to employees and others and defining expectations when it comes to preventing, raising, denouncing and responding to issues of child abuse.
  • Reducing the risk of child abuse by selectively recruiting employees and others.
  • Reducing the risk of child abuse by developing a culture of open and informed leadership within the organization and in our work with children.

Profile:

  • Education: Master’s degree in social work, child welfare, humanitarian studies or related field. Sport for development studies  – or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
  • Language skills: fluency in English and French are a must.
  • Swiss Nationality or valid work permit

Experience and aptitudes

  • 5 years of work experience in the child protection field, as a CP project manager  or technical specialist. Experience in managing socially responsible projects using sports or comparable activities;
  • Experience in Sport for protection field is an important asset (humanitarian or other contexts)
  • Leadership experience working on partnerships, collaborations, and project management;
  • Knowledge and experience of developing learning materials and strategies, particularly online;
  • Skills in monitoring & evaluation and project cycle management represent an asset;
  • Experience working effectively in teams;
  • Excellent representation and relationship building skills including intercultural contexts;
  • Autonomy and organization skills: time and priority management.
