Telephones - Internet

TELEPHONES

To get a landline connection, residents are obliged to take out a subscription with Swisscom – the national operator. You may then contract a subscription with another service provider who offers different rates.

However,  Sunrise customers domiciled in certains regions are not obliged to use a Swisscom line in order to use their telephony and Internet services.

Swisscom – the national operator – offers the largest range of services.

These include cable or cordless telephone appliances for sale or rental, automatic answer machines, accessories, fax machines, subscription to the best services, GSM networks, telephone cards for public telephones, telephone credit cards, modems and communication software and various subscription options.

Mobile phones

Mobile phone network operators in Switzerland are free to set the terms of their offers, which currently include:

  • Prepayment cards (credit paid in advance) ;
  • Subscriptions (up to 24 months of validity, renewable tacitly).

The providers are responsible for registering the identity of their customers for all of their offers.

Loss of mobile phones

In the event of loss or theft of your mobile phone, immediately call the emergency number of your mobile phone operator to block the line:

  • Swisscom Mobile: 0800 55 64 64
  • Sunrise: 0800 50 55 05
  • Orange: 0800 70 07 00
  • Tele2: 0800 24 24 34

Prepayment cards cannot however be blocked. If the mobile phone is found, the legitimate holder may ask for the line to be unblocked, which generally takes one working day.

In case of theft, it is advisable to make an official complaint.

Internet

  • Cable Internet

Internet connections via television cables are available in a number of cities. Often, it is possible to surf for a fixed monthly fee. Many cable operators, however, impose a minimum 12-month contract. Find out from your landlord or local cable operator if you are able to access the Internet through your television cable connection.

  • ADSL

Broadband connections on a fixed monthly rate. Several operators offer ADSL connections. In general, subscriptions are taken out for a minimum of 12 months but the necessary modem is often made available free of charge to the customer. It is often compulsory to make calls through the same operator.
