Volunteer Opportunities

slavefreetrade is a Geneva-based non-profit association working to emancipate the tens of millions of people enslaved within company supply chains. Despite significant effort and expense to eliminate the supply of slaves and prosecute offenders, there are now more people trapped in slavery globally than across the 400 years of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.

90% of slavery exists within the private sector. It is critical to focus global attention on demanding transparency across business supply chains, and accountability for eliminating exploitation therein.

We are the only movement in the world to pivot the focus to eliminating the demand for ‘slave-made’ goods. Our unique approach fosters demand among consumers, investors, suppliers, insurers, and governments. In parallel, we audit and certify supply chains as slave-free, and support business to eliminate slavery from their supply chains so their goods can be labelled ‘slave-free’.

In the words of the United Nation’s Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of Slavery, Ms Urmila Bhoola, “slavefreetrade shining a light on the issue, presents the greatest potential to produce the most significant impact on slavery”.

Voluntary Opportunities

Salvefreetrade has opportunities for a number of students studying related fields. Opportunities are dictated by the work slavefreetrade is undertaking at any given time, which therefore requires volunteers to be flexible in terms of the substantive focus of their work. Chief among tasks for student volunteers is undertaking research into and writing about myriad related issues including but not limited to: human rights; normative frameworks including anti-slavery law; corporate social responsibility; ethical public/private procurement; supply chain transparency; social compliance audit/certification; and socially responsible investment, insurance and credit. Volunteers will be attached to senior members of the association for the duration of their time with slavefreetrade.

Interested applicants should send a current 2-page resume and 1-page cover letter outlining what contribution they wish to make to slavefreetrade.  Applications are received on a rolling basis by
