PAID INTERNSHIP – VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS

Women@theTable, w@tt,  is offering an internship with the core w@tt team to craft stories and create vibrant narratives regarding women as powerful agents of change.

Women@theTable , an NGO based in Geneva, makes gender a discussion point in the larger mainstream debate on governance, the economy, technology, sustainability, and sport, making gender visible on the global stage. We create spaces on mainstream platforms and invent new platforms for feminists to be visible, have their voices heard, and have influence.

Starting date for the internship : January 15, 2018.

Background:

This internship with w@tt  offers a unique opportunity to be involved in creating new narratives and learn about the communications activities of a leading feminist non-governmental organisation.

The intern will be based at w@tt’s office at the Maison de la Paix in Geneva, and will receive exposure to the international community working for gender equality.

The Opportunity:

  • During this internship you will apply your skills, knowledge and experience in the area of visual  (and aural) communications and develop a range of communications skills through practical exposure to the daily activities and outreach of a feminist NGO, thereby broadening your professional competencies.

Interning Objectives:

  • To learn how website product management contributes to awareness raising and knowledge dissemination that enables and supports change making narratives;
  • To learn in general about the practical challenges of creating dynamic narratives;
  • To learn specifically about production of multimedia resources to help disseminate  gender equality narratives  (editorial + creative + technical);
  • To improve or acquire skills in knowledge management and media production, including (should the candidate show an aptitude in these areas):

                      Developing and maintaining the Community of Practice;

                      Website product management and user-experience research;

                      Content Management System and website optimisation;

                      Multimedia content production (print, digital, video) using Adobe software;

                      Use of social media + Google Analytics;

                      Desktop publishing design (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)

                      Writing skills

                      Presentation skills

                      Video editing (Premiere Pro)

                      Podcast production and editing

  • The post holder must have a good grasp of the Microsoft Office suite, an aptitude for design work, and an understanding of online content management application and systems. The ideal candidate will have some experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially video-editing, and audio-editing software. They must be proactive and have demonstrated an ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, able to work quickly and accurately with minimal supervision. (S)he must have good interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills, as well as the ability to network and liaise effectively. (S)he must be able to analyse issues quickly and effectively and produce required outputs to tight timescales. An interest in feminist issues, fundamental to Women@theTable, is highly desirable.

The position is open to Swiss/EU citizens as well as those in possession of a valid Swiss work permit until the end of the internship.  Students who are enrolled at a Swiss university or Institute for higher education are also eligible.

Performance evaluation:

The successful candidate will achieve all the objectives set above by the completion of their internship. (S)he will receive an induction, mid-period and end-of-period appraisal. The candidate will be on probation for the first month (two months if part time).
