Creating a representative office
A representative office may be freely set up in Geneva.
The NGO will
preserve the statutes as governed by the law of its domicile.
This office will be
 responsible to the foreign headquarters.

In the European context, Switzerland has ratified the European Convention on the Recognition of the Legal Personality of International Non-Governmental Organisations of the Council of Europe. A European NGO that has a recognised legal personality in a signatory country automatically has the same status in Switzerland.

NGOs from other regions must have an:
  • official address in Switzerland,
  • a permanent representative and its goals, statutes and activities must be in conformity with Swiss law and attest that they are not-for-profit.
